WOMAN LETTERS.

A NEW York judge ruled in favour of a woman falsifying her age on her car registration documents recently. He said that a woman's age is important only as proof that she is not a minor.

But why do women lie about their age? I blame it on men. They lust after young women and call any woman past 30 over the hill.

Someone recently told me she thought a woman was justified in lying about her age only if her livelihood is at stake. She had just been turned down for an office job because they said she was too old.

So should a woman tell the truth about her age, especially after she reaches 30? Or should we be honest? After all, there will always be age prejudice if we don't come clean.

WHY do doctors assume that parents of young children are hypochondriacs?

My daughter has been to the doctor only about half a dozen times since she was born 20 months ago.

Yet my husband, my childminder and I believe that doctors think parents worry too much and shouldn't bother them with a baby's minor illness.

We have all felt close to making a formal complaint about the dismissive way doctors have treated our concerns.

Doctors fail to remember that, although they may see several cases of babies with a fever, chesty cough or persistent vomiting, we parents do not. There have been so many cases of meningitis around that I am sure it is best to check out every temperature.

We do not appreciate being talked down to and written off as unnecessary worriers when we do.

IN last week's Mirror Woman you raised the issue of surrogacy and whether it should be available on the NHS.

My answer is a resounding yes. I admire people like Kim Cotton. Surrogate mothers are so special, so unselfish. We should put them on the highest pedestal, not send them hate mail.

Regulated properly I should imagine surrogacy on the NHS would save people time and money.

There are so many women out there who want babies, but can't have them. Successful surrogacy would certainly save infertile women from having costly IVF time after time - and the heartache over and over again.
