WOMAN LETTERS.

I WAS fascinated by the article about Wendy Watson, who chose to have a mastectomy the moment she discovered she was at risk of getting breast cancer (Mirror Woman, February 14).

I was very impressed by the courage and strength she showed. Some people may say what she did was extreme, but I say it was the most sensible thing to do in the circumstances.

Which is worse - losing part of your body or losing your life? I know which I would choose.

THE Wendy Watson story really amazed me. She had already gone through a great deal, seeing her mother die of breast cancer when she was 16. Going through a mastectomy must have reminded her of that pain. But she has come through the whole experience and seems to be even stronger for it.

I wonder how she would have felt if, after having the mastectomy, she'd discovered she didn't have the cancer gene after all? I suspect she would have been just as strong.

Wendy Watson's story will also be told in Channel 4's The Decision next Tuesday.

JAMES Robinson doesn't seem to have done too badly for girlfriends, even if he is supposedly Britain's worst boyfriend (Mirror Woman, February 14).

There must be attractive things about him for him to have had so many girls after him. I really think he should be more choosy - you should never settle for second-best. The girls certainly didn't, and neither should he.

AFTER reading Jo Brand's comments about car radio thefts (Mirror Woman, February 14), I too made an observation recently. Walking along a local street, I saw the same strategically-placed note "No radio", aimed at any would-be thief.

Unfortunately, the criminals in our area must have a sense of humour - for, placed above the dashboard, was the reply "Just Checking", and a broken door window to prove it.

It made me wonder whether it was all worth it.
