GROUND FORCE TOMMY LANDS KILLER FILM ROLE.
Byline: ZOE CHAMBERLAINTOMMY Walsh is turning from handyman to hardman - by starring as an evil hitman in a film made in Birmingham.
Television DIY expert Tommyhopes to follow in the footsteps of Vinnie Jones, who swapped soccer for screen stardom in Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels.
And the movie, titled One, could have a premiere screening at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival next year.
Tommy was first approached by Brummie director Rob Brown three years ago and asked if he would be willing to consider contributing a cameo role.
'When he asked me I said 'Yes, if you can get the money,' revealed Tommy, best-known for working with Alan Titchmarsh and Charlie Dimmock in BBC's Ground Force.
'Then he phoned up this year saying they'd got the funding. Having already said yes, I agreed.'
The movie, being touted as a psychological thriller, is due for general release in the New Year.
'It's a bit of an art house thriller, a mysterious film that makes you think,' Tommy told the Sunday Mercury.
'I play a hitman called Vincent, and my part has grown from being just a cameo role to a pivotal performance.
'I'm not an actor but Rob said he thought I was the perfect person for the role.
'I didn't want my character to be too violent because a lot of children watch me on Ground Force, and I thought that would send out the wrong message.
'So my character is more menacing, more profound rather than profane.
'We finished filming a scene at Birmingham's Malmaison hotel a couple of weeks ago. I'm very pleased with it, and I'm hoping to go to Cannes with my wife!'
