Sheridan hails star support.

Byline: By RON MOORE

THREE stars of the award winning movie My Name is Joe are to produce the first ever election broadcast for Solidarity.

Peter Mullan, named best actor at the Cannes Film Festival for his role in the Ken Loach movie, will be joined by fellow actors Davie McKay and Martin McCardie.

Solidarity co-leader Tommy Sheridan said their involvement was "fantastic news" for the left-wing party ahead of next May's election.

He said: "I have known Peter, Martin and Davie for a long time and they are talented and respected artists as well as committed socialists.

"To attract such highly regarded professionals to the election campaign is a real boost and the whole party are excited at the prospect."

Mullan also wrote and directed The Magdalene Sisters and appeared in Trainspotting and Brave-heart. McCardie had roles in Taggart and Monarch of the Glen while McKay has starred in Rab C Nes-bitt and Shoebox Zoo.
