Editor's comment.
This is my last issue as Editor of the Journal of Rehabilitation. After just over five years as editor, I felt that it was time to allow someone else to be in this role. It has been a quick five years, and it is with great ambivalence that I reached this decision. I have enjoyed this role, and especially enjoyed working with the many people responsible for publication of the Journal.I want to especially thank all the members of the editorial board for their contributions. I consider the individuals who take their professional time to review and critique the manuscripts the most important part of the publication process. I have received numerous compliments and expressions of appreciation from authors for the discriminating comments and suggestions made by the reviewers. I want to add my genuine expression of appreciation to them as well. My primary goal when I accepted the role as editor was to improve the quality of the articles, and the greatest contributors to this effort were the editorial board. I want to thank you for all the many hours you spent working on manuscripts that were not your own. This work, in my opinion, deserves the highest professional respect and appreciation.
I also want to express appreciation to Leon Russ, the managing editor, whose professional attitude and excellent work in putting the Journal together has been greatly appreciated throughout my term as editor. Carol Hamilla, who recently moved to other roles, also did an excellent job when working with the Journal.
Special thanks also go to Elizabeth Layman, a special consultant on writing style and Don Holbert, a special consultant in statistics. Don was especially helpful in reviewing and making suggestions regarding the nuances of sometimes very complex statistical presentations. My comfort level in providing feedback to authors was greatly increased by the special knowledge, insight and suggestions of these two individuals.
And finally, I want to express my appreciation to David Strauser and Daniel Lustig, who have accepted the editorship of the Journal for the next term. I feel that the Journal will be in excellent hands, for they have a thorough knowledge of the field of rehabilitation and an appreciation of the importance of research and professional information. I am confident they will do well.
Thanks again to all the individuals who helped me in this effort. It has been a great professional and personal experience.
