Spring produce at its best.

Byline: The Register-Guard

The Farmer's Market is now open twice a week - on Tuesdays and Saturdays - at the corner of Eighth and Oak streets in Eugene.

Some of the locally grown produce that's new or at its peak this week at the market - and at other Eugene-Springfield markets - includes asparagus, beets, carrots, spring onions, spinach, spring salad mix, cut herbs, garden starts and spring garlic.

Also look for the start of red potatoes and strawberries.

Staples that are offered include free-range brown eggs, spring and fall honeys, pork cuts and sausage, jams, picklings and dressings.

Items to look forward to as the produce season continues include strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and Marionberries in June; sweet cherries, summer squash, heirloom and sauce tomatoes in July; corn, peaches, peppers, apples, beans and melons in August; eggplant, Asian pears, plums, pears and Chanterelles in September; and winter squash, table grapes and pumpkins in October.

Market Fresh is compiled by Noa O'Hare, market director of the Lane County Farmer's Market.
