School gets a quiet classroom.
A SPECIALIST classroom for individual and small group work has been opened at Hartshill School.The school, in Church Road, has been able to convert an old storeroom thanks to funding from the education department at Warwickshire County Council.
The room is intended to provide a calm haven for pupils who find it difficult to maintain concentration, with the use of daylight bulbs and air conditioning.
Richard Turner, headteacher said: "This is a very worthwhile project. It is vital that all youngsters are able to be taught in an environment which meets their needs. This room will help these youngsters develop the skills they need for life."
Julia Bell, special educational needs co-ordinator, added: "Schools have to ensure that everyone can access the curriculum and make progress.
"Now we have this specialist room we can ensure that the children who need this individual help can achieve their potential."
The room was officially opened by Chris Darlington, president of the National Association for Special Educational Needs.
