Pakistan-China cooperation holds huge potential in AI: Chinese consul general.
People's Republic of China Consul General in Lahore Sun Yan has said that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not merely a technological revolution but a transformative force that will reshape education, industry and the future of humanity.Addressing as the guest of honour at the launching ceremony of Pakistan's first AI tutor, MAYA AI, developed by the University of South Asia (USA) here on Saturday, he said China believes that AI development must remain people-centred, safe, inclusive and beneficial to all nations.
Sun Yan said Pakistan and China have enormous potential to strengthen cooperation in artificial intelligence, particularly in the fields of education, agriculture, healthcare and innovation. He said universities have a crucial responsibility to prepare young people with the knowledge, skills and creativity required to succeed in the intelligent era.
'I encourage the talented youth of Pakistan to embrace AI, promote innovation and contribute towards building a brighter shared future for both our countries,' he said.
Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, who attended the ceremony as chief guest, said Artificial Intelligence is rapidly transforming the world and Pakistan's universities must prepare students to become active contributors to this technological revolution.
He said the HEC is committed to integrating AI into academic curricula and equipping both students and faculty members with the skills needed for the future. He stressed that universities must move beyond conventional teaching methods and promote research, innovation, entrepreneurship and practical applications of emerging technologies.
'I am pleased to see institutions such as the University of South Asia taking a forward-looking approach towards technology-driven education and preparing young people for the evolving global economy,' he said, adding that Pakistan could harness the power of AI to build a knowledge-based, innovative and globally competitive country.
Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Dr Iqrar Ahmad said the commission is committed to promoting innovation, research and modern skills to ensure that higher education remains aligned with the evolving needs of the economy and industry.
He said the launch of MAYA AI would prove to be a supportive tool for the provincial education system. He congratulated the University of South Asia for organizing the initiative and providing a platform for meaningful dialogue on the future of Artificial Intelligence.
The University of South Asia has launched five integrated AI models under MAYA AI Tutor, including Voice 7 AI, Persona AI, Pixel AI, Motion AI and Adam AI. The models are designed to support students while also providing AI-based solutions for the local market in various sectors.
These AI models will be used for voice, image and video generation, marking a significant step towards the application of emerging technologies in education and industry.
Chairman University of South Asia Mehmood Sadiq and Vice Chancellor Mian Imran Masood presented souvenirs to the chief guest and guests of honour.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Railways Muhammad Hafeezullah, Chief Executive Officer of LESCO Ramzan Butt, General Manager Sui Northern Lahore Region Rashid Inayat, Director Administration Auqaf Punjab Shakir Sindhu, Director Public Relations Pakistan Railways Babar Raza, prominent personalities from the fields of education, business, social development and technology, vice chancellors of various public and private sector universities, higher education experts, CEOs from the business and social sectors, representatives of industry and technology, as well as a large number of faculty members and students.
