SPRINGFIELD - A celebration of life will be held June 25 for Jeanne Marie Swafford of Springfield, who died June 19 of cancer. She was 67.
She was born Nov. 20, 1937, in Fallon, Nev., to Jack and Dorothy Dory Watt. She was previously married to Robert Parsons and Samuel Roane. She married Lester Swafford Sr. in 1976 in Carson City, Nev. He died May 19, 1986.
She attended high school in Lowell and lived in Fall Creek, Coos Bar and Springfield. She was employed as a grocery cashier, a car hop at Ford's Drive-In, a police matron and worked in loss prevention control. She enjoyed gardening, ironing, homemaking, cooking and caring for the people she loved. She was a member of the Eagle Lodge in Coos Bay.
Survivors include her daughter, Carrie Roane of Springfield; and two brothers, Keith Korte of Drain and Kenneth Korte of Oakland.
Saturday's celebration will be at 2 p.m. at Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cascade Hospice.
Ola Pollara
Ola Karin Pollara of Eugene died June 18 of cancer. She was 73.
Pollara was born May 22, 1932, in Eugene, to Ole and Clara Mickelson Lindland.
She was raised in Lowell and graduated from Lowell High School. She had worked in the construction industry and was a member of Women in Construction. She enjoyed golf and bowling.
Survivors include a son, Frank Pollara of Springfield; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
No service is planned. England's Eugene Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
James Flatley
WESTLAKE - A celebration of life will be held July 10 for James C. Flatley of Westlake, who died June 16 of cancer. He was 61.
He was born April 11, 1944, in Charleston, S.C., to Herbert and Mary Carlisle Flatley. He married Nancy Elliott on Sept. 2, 1964, in Reno, Nev.
He worked as a mechanic and welder for Foglio Trucking Co. in Florence. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and shooting with friends. He was master of the Ada Grange.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Mary Ott of South Carolina; three daughters, Loni Schofield, Keli Thrall and Jami Thomas, all of Westlake; a sister, Kathy March of South Carolina; and nine grandchildren.
The July 10 celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. at Elliott's Hilltop Acres, 6180 Canary Road, Westlake. Dunes Memorial Chapel in Reedsport is in charge of arrangements.
Ted Russell
A wake will be held June 24 for Ted Joseph Russell of the Eugene-Glenwood area, who died June 20 of cardiac arrest. He was 49.
Russell was born April 20, 1956, in Ogden, Utah, to Ira and Etta Kelley Russell.
He graduated from high school. His family said he was a talented, skilled craftsman who enjoyed working in the trades. He also enjoyed archery, fishing, travel and gardening.
Survivors include his mother, of Eugene; a son, Joshua Russell-Bryant of Eugene; his domestic partner, Joan Armstead of Glenwood; six sisters, Patricia Crouch of Eugene, Michelle Russell and Susan Gibson, both of Springfield, Margaret Borden of Stratton, Colo., Mary Russell of Seattle and Kathy Anderson of Tremont, Utah; and two brothers, Ira Jr. of Austin, Texas, and Kent of Seattle.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield.
Friday's wake will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Alton Baker Park in Eugene.
Memorial contributions may be made to FOOD for Lane County or the Glenwood Society for Livable Communities.
Samuel Blackwell
A memorial service will be held June 26 for Samuel E. Blackwell of Eugene, who died June 19 of heart failure. He was 87.
He was born Sept. 8, 1917, in Amarillo, Texas, to James and Carrie Miller Blackwell. He married Dorothy Green on Sept. 30, 1950, in Lewiston, N.Y.
He graduated from Abilene Christian College with a bachelor's degree and held a master's degree from Syracuse University.
Blackwell served in the U.S. Army. He worked in the space program and was a photojournalist and in advertising. He was a professor at Lane Community College from 1968 to 1979. His interests included photography.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Samuel Jr. of Bend; a daughter, Rebecca Blackwell of Reseda, Calif.; and one grand- child.
Sunday's service will be at 2 p.m. at Dayspring Fellowship in Eugene. Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Royal Anderson
VENETA - Royal Riseman Anderson of Veneta died June 12 of pneumonia and renal failure. He was 55.
Anderson was born Sept. 16, 1949, in Eugene. He married Diana Southwell on Oct. 16, 1981 in Lake Tahoe, Nev.
He attended Thurston High School and received a general equivalency diploma. He served in the Marine Corps in the Vietnam War as a helicopter gunner and wireman. He had worked for a mill, for The Tool Peddler and as a delivery truck driver. He had lived in Veneta for 30 years and previously lived in Texas, California and Washington.
He enjoyed collecting and refinishing antiques and rescuing abandoned animals. He was a former member of the Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Andrea-Faye Anderson of Eugene; and a sister, Dena Weise of Springfield.
No service is planned. Chapel of Memories Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greenhill Humane Society or Disabled American Veterans.
Rose Brunson
A private memorial service is planned for Rose Alberta Brunson of Eugene, who died June 18 of age-related causes. She was 85.
She was born Sept. 8, 1919, in Newark, N.J., to Samuel and Mary Aswald Noury. She married Leroy Brunson in April of 1941 in New York City. She and her husband, a career Army man, were assigned to Germany following World War II and lived there, with their children, through three tours of duty. The couple moved to Eugene in 1978 from San Leandro, Calif. He died in February 1980.
She was a seamstress at age 15 and became the head quilter in furniture manufacturing, as well as an upholsterer. She served as shop steward in her union. In her later years, she was a teacher's aide in the Pleasant Hill schools.
She enjoyed knitting, sewing, working in her yard, gardening and cooking traditional Middle Eastern dishes. She was a full-time grandmother and day care provider for her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield.
Survivors include two daughters, Bernadette Preszler of Pleasant Hill and Elizabeth Thompson of Half Moon Bay, Calif.; a son, Leroy of Pleasant Hill; a brother, James Noury of California; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Luella Turkle
COOS BAY - The private graveside service was held June 18 for Luella Marie Turkle of Coos Bay, who died June 18 of cancer. She was 81. A memorial service will be held later.
Turkle was born Oct. 10, 1923, in San Diego, Calif., to Arthur and Myrtle Phelps Sale. She married Charles Schultz. He died in 1990. She married Ross Turkle on April 14, 2002.
She worked as a bookkeeper for a furniture store in Ventura, Calif., until her retirement in 1978. She moved to Lakeside in 1984 and lived there until 2002, when she moved to Coos Bay.
Her family said she was an accomplished musician. She was an accompanist for the Belles and Beaus singing group and organist for Community Presbyterian Church in Lakeside. She enjoyed music, fishing and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mary Timmons of Bristow, Okla.; six stepchildren, Joyce Hammer of Coos Bay, Ralph Turkle of Cannon Beach, Scott Turkle of Clackamas, Wanda Turkle of Milwaukie, Ray Turkle of Omaha, Neb., and Cindy Turkle of Indianola, Iowa; two sisters, Beverly Sale of Wichita, Kan., and Dorothy Dugan of Muskogee, Okla.; one grandchild, eight step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Reedsport Masonic Cemetery. Burns' Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Presbyterian Church in Lakeside.
Eric Winkler
Eric Cornelis Winkler of Eugene died June 5 of age-related causes. He was 83. A memorial service has been held.
Winkler was born March 1, 1922, in Jakarta, Indonesia, to Cornelis and Dorothea Coon Winkler. He married Elaine Uphoff on Dec. 2, 1986, in South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
He moved to the United States as an infant. He later served in the Army in World War II in the Pacific Theater.
Winkler was a deputy agricultural commissioner for the State of California for 31 years. He held a master of science degree. He had lived in Eugene since 1989 and previously lived in San Jose, Calif.
Winkler belonged to the Eugene Gleemen and an alumni group of the University of California at Berkeley. He enjoyed singing, camping, hiking, travel, fishing and bicycling. His family said he loved to read.
He is survived by his wife; four children, all of the Bay Area in California; two stepdaughters; and four grandchildren.
West Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Eddy
COTTAGE GROVE - Robert Henry Eddy of Cottage Grove died June 15 of cancer. He was 74.
Eddy was born May 25, 1931, in New York City, to Otto and Georgianna Meyer Eddy.
Eddy had lived in Cottage Grove for eight years. He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathrina Eddy-McGrath of Oceanside, N.Y., and Patricia Muniz of Florida; two sons, Michael and Robert, both of New York state; a sister, Dorothy Woolsey of Cottage Grove; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Judith Long
COTTAGE GROVE - Judith A. "Judy" Long of Cottage Grove died June 16 of cancer. She was 61. A memorial service will be held later in Sacramento.
Long was born Aug. 8, 1943, in Sacramento, to Rae Rominger. She married Henry Long on March 4, 1972, in Carson City, Nev.
She graduated from Sacramento High School. She attended California State University-Sacramento, and Sacramento City College. She worked as a research analyst for the California employment development department for 37 years.
Long had lived in Cottage Grove for more than six years and previously lived in Elk Grove, Calif. She was a third-generation member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West.
Survivors include her husband; two stepdaughters, Shelly Sachs and Tricia Gaiduk, both of Sacramento; a sister, Patti Martinez of Sacramento; and one step-grandchild.

Thomas Courtney
SPRINGFIELD - Thomas Michael Courtney of Springfield died June 20 of cancer. He was 76.
Courtney was born Aug. 15, 1928, in Chicago, to Martin and Catherine Minehan Courtney. He married LaVerne Reeve on Oct. 3, 1949, in Chicago. She died Dec. 15, 1995.
He attended Chicago State University and DePaul University in Illinois. He served in the Air Force from 1947 to 1951. He had lived in Chicago and worked for Illinois Bell Telephone Co. as a computer technologist. He later lived in Phoenix, Ariz., and was a computer operator for Phoenix Hospital. He had lived in Springfield since 1993.
A mystery writer, Courtney had sold short stories to Alfred Hitchcock. He belonged to Mystery Writers of America. He also was a collector of old movies.
Survivors include five sons, Terry and Daniel, both of Springfield, Kevin of Eugene and Marty and Tim of Chicago; and a sister, Fran Courtney of Chicago.
No service is planned. Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
Orletha Lawver
Orletha Mae "Granny" Lawver of Eugene died June 14 of age-related causes. She was 86.
She was born May 6, 1919, in Shelby, Neb. She married Lewis Lawver on Aug. 11, 1936, in Kansas. He died Jan. 12, 1992.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed Bible study, working crossword puzzles, crocheting and reading. She was a member of Open Vista Awareness Center in Red Bluff, Calif.
Survivors include three sons, Earl of Springfield, Bud of Preston, Idaho, and Tom of California; two daughters, Helen Baker and Peggy Barber, both of Ukiah, Calif.; two brothers, Cecil Baker of Mena, Ark., and Dale Baker of Lakeland, Fla.; 23 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. A son, Lucky Lawver, and three grandchildren, Tommy Lawver Jr., Kenneth Barber and Eddie Lawver Jr., died previously.

Winifred Livingston
SPRINGFIELD - A private memorial service is planned for Winifred "Winnie" Livingston of Springfield, who died June 18 of age-related causes. She was 78.
She was born Nov. 29, 1926, in Munden, Kan., to Willis and Mildred Presnall Davenport.
She was a registered nurse and licensed surgical nurse and was retired. She enjoyed painting and Russian needlepunch. She was a member of the Dayspring Fellowship.
Survivors include two sons, David of Springfield and Walter of Eugene; a brother, Lynn Davenport of Santa Rosa, Calif.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her husband, Walter Livingston, and a son, Richard Livingston, died previously.
