Kadastrof arrives at Irish stud.
Kadastrof, one of the best chasing entires of recent times, has arrived at Farnagh Stud in County Westmeath, where he will cover his first mares shortly.
Trained by Robin Dickin, the 10-year-old ran his final race when disappointing in last season's Champion Chase.
Dickin says: "He was sore on a joint, and when it got better and we put him in faster work, it flared up again. We felt he'd been so good for seven years and it was time to call it a day.
"Quite a few people inquired about him as a stallion. We thought he'd get more mares in Ireland, and we've chosen a smaller place where we liked the way the owner, Michael Scott, was with his horses.
"Kadastrof had a lovely temperament. He really took to fences. He was so enthusiastic; I daren't run him if he was 95 per cent because he didn't spare the crows."
He won 15 of his 67 races from two to nine - four on the Flat, five over hurdles and six over fences. Having won over a mile at two, Kadastrof was one of the best juvenile hurdlers of 1993/94, when he was fifth behind Mysilv in the Triumph Hurdle and second in the Glenlivet Hurdle.
Switched to fences in 1997/98, he won six of his 11 races and was close to being top two-mile novice. His best effort was a length-and-a-quarter second to Ask Tom (gave 7lb) in the Game Spirit Chase, with Viking Flagship and Celibate behind. He had just two outings in 1998/99, finishing a short-head second to Super Tactics in the Emblem Chase at Kempton before finishing 10th of 11 in the Champion Chase.
Kadastrof is by the Mill Reef stallion Port Etienne, a Listed-winning half-brother to 1989 Breeders' Cup Turf runner-up Sierra Roberta who is also sire of Barton and Destin d'Estruval. His dam Kadastra, by the Nijinsky stallion Stradavinsky, was an 11-furlong winner.
He stands alongside Tidaro, sire of Spendid and Dee Pee Tee Cee.
