Auto Focus
THE true story of Bob Crane, the American actor who played Hogan in the hit prisoner-of-war camp sitcom Hogan's Heroes before he hit the theatrical skids.
Big cheese Bob (Greg Kinnear) has sex on tap, aided by sleazy video salesman John Carpenter (Willem Dafoe) who also provides him with the first home video cams to record their exploits. But life goes downhill as his star wanes. A breezily entertaining piece of work.
Adaptation
IF YOU enjoyed the peculiar comedy Being John Malkovich, you'll be positively salivating at the thought of Adaptation.
Not only is it written and directed by the same team of Charlie Kaufman and the great Spike Jonze, it also stars Nicholas Cage in a double role as twins. But the end lets down the often brilliant script with a lousy, inane, predictable point about the nature of Hollywood.
Solaris
A SHIP orbits the planet Solaris. The occupants are acting oddly so psychiatrist George Clooney is sent to sort them out. But he finds their madness hard to resist. Again director Steven Soderbergh proves he's almost single-handedly dragging mainstream US movies upmarket.
Daredevil
ALTHOUGH Daredevil's love interest Elektra (Jennifer Garner) is saner than in the comic-book, she still rocks. As do villains Bullseye, played as an out-and-out maniac by Colin Farrell and Kingpin, nicely fleshed out by Michael Clarke Duncan. The biggest surprise is that Ben Affleck is pretty good as the superhero.
