Dog ate face of dead Robbie.

A TEENAGER'S face was eaten by his pet dog as he lay dead for days in his flat.

Robbie McKenzie, 17, collapsed and died from a suspected drug overdose.

But it took three days for his body to be found in his blood-soaked flat.

During that time, his pet Staffordshire Bull terrier, which was locked inside with him, savaged his head and face.

Police were so horrified by the injuries they first feared he had been murdered.

Some officers were convinced he'd been scalped and had his face sliced off in a frenzied killing because the wounds were so severe.

A female friend made the discovery at Robert's Greenock home on Monday.

A police spokeswoman said: "Due to Mr McKenzie having apparent facial injuries, the house was immediately sealed off and extensive forensic examination undertaken.

"The post-mortem examination has indicated that the cause of death has been unascertained and may be drug related. Toxicology tests will now be carried out.

"There are no other signs of a violent disturbance."

His parents, Peter Patterson and Heather McKenzie, who split when Robert was two, were last night coming to terms with his death.

Neighbour Graeme Muir said: "I heard the police saying the place was covered with blood.

"He was a drug user. I knew he smoked hash, but I recently found out he also took heroin."
