TELLY: Mey-er hero.
Byline: SHANE DONAGHEYHOLBY CITY (BBC1, TUESDAYS)
PART panto villain, part grim reaper, with a bedside manner of a cruel vet, Anton Meyer is the only reason to watch this summer substitute for Casualty.
The chief chest splitter and stitcher upper at Holby City, he spends each episode glaring at people from behind a mask and rooting around the innards of unfortunate extras like a hungry Dr Lecter.
Each episode tries to outdo previous ones in gore. Try watching this with a TV dinner.
Only the characters' love lives are messier.
Yet through all this chaos, Meyer sails on, running his ship with an iron fist veiled in a concrete glove.
Senior house officer and show babe Dr Sam Kennedy (too gorgeous to be stuck behind a mask) bravely tested these deep and dangerous waters.
She told the parents of a seriously ill boy that an operation Meyer was going to perform was riskier than he'd let on.
Like a shark, Meyer chewed up her career in 10 minutes flat, while operating on greasy underling Alistair's new-born baby.
By the way, why was Alistair allowed to watch his daughter being born in the OR without a mask? He's a surgeon, the idiot.
It'd be no show without him.
