Sony cuts price on Magic Link communicator.
SAN JOSE, Cal. - Sony Electronics Inc. has dropped the price of its Magic Link Personal Intelligent Communicator for the second time this year.The PIC-1000 hit the market in September 1994 with a suggested retail price of $995. In April, Sony dropped the price to $699 and late MA month dropped the price again to a 499 suggested retail price. The company expects the street price will settle at about $399.
"This sets us up for a great fall selling season," predicted Alex Gruzen, director of product marketing The price drop has already been featured in print ads, including advertisements m The Wall Street Journal and USA Today.
Gruzen added that in late September, Sony will offer consumers a free connector kit when they buy the Magic Link PIC-1000. The kit generally retails for $99, he said.
The PIC-1000 weighs about 1.2 pounds and offers a combination of messaging and organizational capabilities, including e-mail, fax, telephone, online services with personal information management software. Available accessories include a full-size keyboard ($99.95).
