Schools are on the road to learning.
A new transport scheme is en-route to help more schools discover outstanding rural museums in County Durham.Killhope, the North of England Lead Mining Museum, Weardale Museum and The Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle, have teamed up to give subsidised coach travel to visiting schools.
Schools throughout the North-East and Cumbria will be able to claim back some of the coach hire costs.
"A pilot project earlier this year funded by the Countryside Agency was a great success," said Sarah Gouldsbrough, Durham County Council's schools development officer.
"Now the Countryside Agency has awarded a further grant to help with the travel costs of schools until March next year. The cost of transport is one of the biggest barriers to schools visiting our museums.
"All they have to do is ask for details of the scheme when they book a visit and then send the invoice for the coach to the museum afterwards for them to organise the refund", she said.
