SHARRON QUITS GLADIATORS.
Former swimming ace Sharron Davies is quitting TV's Gladiators after only a year.The blonde beauty - Amazon in the show - dropped her bombshell on TV chiefs before going to commentate on the Olympics in Atlanta.
It comes as a double blow to the top-rated show which is also losing Jet, alias Diane Youdale.
Sharron, 33, asked to go after a knee injury she suffered tackling a contestant began playing up again.
She is also no longer at the high standard of fitness required.
Diane, 28, left after nearly breaking her back filming the last series.
Sharron will miss out on an estimated pounds 100,000-a-year for personal appearances as a Gladiator.
She is hoping to carve out a full-time career as a sports commentator after impressing her BBC bosses in America.
The 5ft 11in former Olympic swimming champ was persuaded to join Gladiators by husband Derek Redmond, 31, who coaches stars like Wolf and Hunter.
A pal said: "Sharron is bitterly disappointed but thankfully has lots of other projects on the go."
London Weekend Television begin recording a new Gladiators series next week. "We're sorry to see her go," said a spokeswoman.
