SAMMY QUITS ..AGAIN.
Boozy Brookside beauty Sammy Daniels is leaving the Close - for the second time.Actress Rachael Lindsay - who plays the wayward single mum - has quit again, leaving the soap's bosses with a real headache.
"Sammy's departure leaves the Close short of appealing women," a senior executive admitted last night.
Rachael had provided the show's glamour after Anna Friel's departure, and now the producers are faced with the task of finding another attractive girl to fill her shoes. Rachael, 24, finished filming last week and will disappear from screen at the end of next month.
On Friday her Brookie co-stars and backroom staff joined her in the farewell drink on the show's Liverpool set.
In a dramatic storyline Sammy jets off for a holiday with new boyfriend, Noel - leaving her young daughter, Louise, home alone.
Rachael left the soap for the first time in 1993 after six years. Since her return earlier this year, her character has been fighting alcoholism and depression.
She had a series of flings after splitting from her screen husband - played by her former real-life lover, Danny McCall.
A friend said: "Rachael is keen not to cut herself off from Brookside for ever, but she's desperate to do something new.
"She's moved from her mum's house in Liverpool to London. That's where she sees the future."
Brawl deal
Teenage soap star Leeon Sawyer has been quizzed by police after a brawl in which a copper was attacked.
Leeon, 15, who plays Mick Johnson's son Leo in Brookie, was marched to Liverpool's Tuebrook police station after the incident on Friday night.
The scuffle, in which a policeman was hurt, followed a row with other teenagers about a debt.
But no charges have been made against the star.
Leeon, who is paid pounds 30,000 a year, told me other youths claimed he started the trouble because they are "jealous" of his success. A friend tells me: "Kids get Leeon involved because he is famous."
Oasis get Unplugged
Oasis are to record an MTV Unplugged at a secret London venue later this month.
The Manchester band follow in the footsteps of Nirvana, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton and REM.
The programme will be recorded during a break in their world tour and screened later this year.

Motty's sent off
John Motson was offered Nick Hancock's job hosting BBC1's They Think It's All Over.
But the football commentator says the channel's own sports department advised against the role. "They thought it would cause conflict with my role as a serious commentator," he says in his book, Motty's Diary.
Perhaps they just thought he isn't funny.
Tuft guy
Elastica's Justine Frischmann, 25, says her Blur boyfriend Damon Albarn is turned on by her hairy armpits.
"I think they are nice - really quite sexy," she tells me
"And Damon likes them, so I don't shave."
