New play area won't be wasted.
RUBBISH has raised the cash for youngsters in Nuneaton to have a clean, safe and fun place to play.Waste Recycling Group Ltd has donated pounds 20,750 towards the building of a play court, suitable for five-a-side football, basketball and other games, in Kingswood Road, Grove Farm.
The new playground has been built at Kingswood Road football field and will be an added attraction for youngsters who already use the sports facilities.
Cllr Pat Henry (Lab, Kingswood) said: "This is an excellent resource and already proving very popular with local people.
"In the school holidays, sports development officers have been down there and got kids involved in activities.
"It's good to see young people's energies being channelled into something positive."
Ross Alexander, a community sports officer for Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, said: "A recent survey of young people cited the need for a play area such as this.
"And we are delighted to get the financial support from Waste Recycling Group."
Gareth Swain, of Waste Recycling Group's Judkins landfill site, said: "It's fantastic to contribute towards the local community in this way and provide a few benefits for people living close to the landfill site."
The cash came from the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme.
Waste management companies have an opportunity to invest up to 6.5percent of their annual landfill tax bill into community and environmental projects in their immediate area.
