NEW HOPES IN HUNT FOR SUSPECT.

POLICE today said they were "pleased" with the response to an appeal over the murder of a Merseyside man.

BBC 1's Crime watch last night featured a picture of Gary Finlay, the man wanted in connection with the murder of former Wirral soldier Graham McKenna.

Mr McKenna was knifed to death in front of his son as they made their way to watch Everton play Hull on Saturday, January 10.

Mr McKenna, 45, and Michael, 14, were ambushed on Speedwell Road, Claughton, Wirral, as they went to catch the Soccerbus to Goodison Park.

After suspect Finlay's photograph was aired on Crime watch's Most Wanted board police said about 30 calls came in with information.

They are now following up several "positive lines of inquiries". Many of the callers gave details of Finlay's associates.

A police spokeswoman said: "We are pleased with a good response to last night's Crime watch a ppeal."
