McGough grabs national crown.
BOXING: Jamie McGough was crowned NACYP champion in Liverpool.The Triumph teenager took the title in Class A at under-66 kgs after a thrilling scrap with Matthew Innes (Cymbran) at the Adelphi Hotel.
McGough went into the final round against the Four Nations champion with a 5-4 lead and pressed with solid shots to head and body to win 7-5.
The 16 year-old pupil at Bishop Ullathorne was beaten in the semi-finals last season and Triumph coach Dinesh Darbar said: "This is a big win for Jamie.
"He kept a high workrate and deserved the decision. He started pushing his opponent back in the first round and kept on top of him after that.
"It's been a long time coming and he has worked really hard.
"Jamie didn't have the best of starts when he started boxing, but we always thought things would improve for him.
"He is improving with every bout and maturing into a good boxer."
