MURDER WEAPON APPEAL.
Byline: MATT SLATERA GUN dumped on a grass verge has been confirmed as the weapon used to murder teenager Michael Singleton.
Detectives leading the investigation hope they may get a vital breakthrough from someone who saw the killer toss the firearm away.
Mr Singleton,18,died after an execution-style killing in a terrace house six weeks ago.
He was shot in the head after he went inside the home on Wykeham Way,Kirkdale.
The killer then ran from the house at about 10pmon Sunday, April 11.
In the days following the murder, a gun was found at the junction of Sessions Road and Easby Road, which is about 500 yards from the scene.
Police sent it away for forensic tests and the results were matched to the injuries inflicted on Mr Singleton.
Detectives today made an appeal for help to catch the killer.
Det Supt Russ Walsh of Merseyside police said: ``We have yet to arrest anyone in connection with the death of Mr Singleton,but we do have a number of positive lines of inquiry.
``If anyone saw this weapon being dropped at the junction then they could be very important.
``It would have happened very shortly after the shooting.'' Mr Singleton had been dropped off by two friends at the house minutes before he was shot.
They were still nearby when gunshots were heard and they made a frantic 999call.
Police have completed house to -house inquiries,but believe other motorists may have been passing through the area at the time.
DS Walsh added: ``We have built up a detailed picture of the events, but there are one or two things which are not totally clear.
``I would urge anyone who has even the slightest piece of information to get in touch.''
