MP JIMMY'S BABY BOY IN FIGHT FOR LIFE.
Scots MP Jimmy Wray's baby son was in intensive care last night after he stopped breathing SEVEN times.Jimmy's fiancee, Laura Walker, 36, gave birth to baby Francis Michael Gabriel at Glasgow's Southern General Hospital on Tuesday.
But the little boy was rushed to intensive care after Laura noticed he had turned blue.
Doctors believe Francis may have picked up a virus and yesterday they were waiting on the results of blood tests.
The Labour MP for Glasgow Baillieston said: "Francis is in an incubator in the intensive care unit.
"He stopped breathing seven times and doctors had to give him oxygen to start his breathing again.
"It's heartbreaking to see such a tiny wee thing attached to so many tubes."
Francis, who is lawyer Laura's first child, was born four weeks premature by caesarean section.
Jimmy, 60, who also has three grown-up children, feared for Laura's life after she lost half the blood in her body following complications during the birth.
She needed four pints of blood after doctors had to cut their way through the placenta to get to the baby.
Jimmy revealed how Laura spotted something was wrong when she was feeding the baby hours after he was born.
He said: "Laura was feeding him when she noticed he was turning blue. He was rushed to the intensive care unit."
Jimmy added: "Laura isn't very well either. Naturally she's worried about the baby.
"But Francis is a little fighter and is still kicking away. He's in the best hands and I'm sure he'll get through this."
Laura was admitted to the Southern General last month after doctors discovered she had a condition called placenta previa.
The placenta was lying in the wrong place and the baby was pressing down on it.
Anxious Jimmy was attending a conference in Switzerland when he heard the news and drove 1000 miles to be at Laura's bedside.
He had taken his car to the refugee summit in Geneva and it took him more than 24 hours to get back home to Scotland.
Ex-boxer Jimmy plans to wed Laura as soon as he is divorced from his estranged first wife, Catherine, 49, and he has asked top fight promoter Don King to be his best man.
Earlier this year, a tribunal ordered Jimmy to pay Catherine more than pounds 6000 for unfairly sacking her as his constituency secretary.
She alleged the MP had attacked her several times, putting her in hospital - but he has strongly denied the claims.
