Butsuch is Macca'sstanding in Scottish football, he went down a storm at the Daily Record Sports Week Football Forum.
McAvennie, who started his career with Morton's arch rivals, got a rousing welcome from the 100-strong crowd inside the Dockers Club.
Fans couldn't get enough of his stories about women, booze and occasionally football.
Macca was joined on the panel by his former Celtic striker partner Andy Walker, Morton boss John McCormack and Sport Record's Anthony Haggerty for the event sponsored by Bell's.
Inevitably Ton supporters were keen to know whether Cowboy could steer the club back into the SPL.
The Cappielow side are flying high at the top of the Bell's Second Division, largely due to deadly duo Alex Williams and Peter Weatherson.
McCormack believes withtime, patience and the backing of their 8000 fans the good times could finally be heading back to Greenock.
Also on the agenda was the SPL's 10,000 all-seater stadium rule that prevented Falkirk from being promoted last season.
Everyone on the panel agreed it's time for it to be scrapped.
Some fans felt teams such as Mortonshouldberecruiting more players from the junior ranks.
John, Andy and Macca all played at junior level but conceded the standard isn't good enough and those days were gone.
Besides the serious football issues, Andy told of his hilarious TVdebutwithcommentator Archie Macpherson.
But it was McAvennie who wasthe star oftheshowandhe finishedthenightbyrecalling the time when Billy McNeil ordered him to run to training as a punishment.
To the Celtic boss's horror, Macca hitched a ride with a Parkhead punter straight to their Barrowfield training ground.
