NIGEL CLOUGH is the man doomed Chesterfield want to replace John Duncan.Duncan was sacked yesterday with the club marooned at the bottom of the Second Division - one defeat away from certain relegation.
And Clough has emerged as the favourite with new owner Darren Brown to take charge at Saltergate at the end of the season.
Brown runs a mini-sporting empire in Sheffield and Humberside, owning Sheffield Steelers and Hull Giants ice hockey teams, as well as the Sheffield Sharks basketball club.
The millionaire Rotherham plumber only took charge of Chesterfield three weeks ago - but has been impressed by the job Clough junior has done taking Burton Albion from the verge of relegation to second in the Dr Martens Premier Division in just over 12 months.
Former Chesterfield favourite Danny Wilson, who played 117 games for the club in the Eighties, is also a candidate to return to his old club a month after he was sacked at Sheffield Wednesday.
