With Solano's celebrating its official opening this week, Peruvian cuisine should be a big draw during the event, which runs from August 3 to 9.
Nobby told the Chronicle he would go for Aji de pollo, which is pulled chicken breast served in a mild spicy and creamy cheese based sauce with cool cooked potatoes, boiled eggs and steamed rice, made using the famous Peruvian chilli "Aji Amari and walnuts.
Solano's Peruvian chef, Alfonso Yanez Dominguez, says he would recommend Pure con adobo, which is a traditional mash potato with pork medallion in a rich Peruvian sauce, and is part of their NE1 Newcastle restaurant Week menu.
However Alfonso's favourite meal of all time is Parihuela de marisco, a seafood dish which is on Solanos' main restaurant menu.
This is a traditional Peruvian spicy fish and seafood dish consisting of fish, king prawns, mussels and succulent calamari priced at [pounds sterling]13.95.

Causa Limena de Vegetables. Mashed Yellow Potatoes seasoned with freshly squeezed Lime Juice and a touch of fresh Peruvian Yellow Chilli, cooled and layered with Vegetables (v)

BACKGROUND ON PERU
Peru is a country of 31 million inhabitants located on the west coast of South America. It is famous for its three regions: the Coast, the Mountains and the Amazon Jungle. Many will know of Machu Picchu, one of the seven wonders of the world; the country is the home of Paddington Bear, and Peru's famous footballer Nolberto Solano, nicknamed Nobby, who is now an adopted Geordie and gives his name to the restaurant.
