An Indian restaurant in Ellesmere Port has shut its doors for good.

Saffron, off Whitby Road, has a notice on the entrance doors stating: "Saffron is closed permanently, sorry".

Back in October, we reported that the restaurant and takeaway venue had been put up for sale for more than half a million pounds.

The premises was being marketed by Leeds-based estate agency Everard Cole, with freehold offers expected in the region of £575,000.

However, the premises is no longer listed on its website.

CheshireLive also reported last month that the business had been hit with a £20,000 fine for using illegal workers.

It was one of 15 employers in the north west to receive a civil penalty for illegal working.

Owner Mohammed Shamsul Haque was named as the liable party in the quarterly Government update.

The data in the report covered the period of January 1 to March 31 this year.

The town's only nightclub, Club Xes, is based on the top floor of the venue.
