Choccie blow to veggies.

MILLIONS of vegetarians will no longer be able to enjoy treats like Mars, Milky Way, Bounty, Snickers, Maltesers and Twix because they now contain animal products.

Sweets giant Masterfoods have started using traces of whey, a byproduct of cheese-making, which uses rennet, a chemical from calves' stomachs.

The Vegetarian Society condemned the change. A web petition has also been launched urging the firm to change its mind.

A spokesman said: "There are about three million vegetarians in the UK. Many will be shocked to discover the manufacture of these products now relies on an extraction from the stomach lining of calves."

A Masterfoods spokesman said: "Since changing the sourcing of our ingredients we are no longer able to ensure our chocolate will be animal rennet-free, so we made the principled decision to admit it."
