COSTCO EXPANDS ITS PECASO SPECIAL-ORDER KIOSK PROGRAM.

ISSAQUAH, Wash.-Costco Wholesale Corp. has expanded its Bernard Pecaso Lighting special-order program to 153 of its stores, and expects to roll the kiosks out to the majority of its 416 locations, the retailer said.

Costco, the wholesale membership club known for its high-end brands and upscale clientele, has an extensive special-order program that also includes furniture, Hunter Douglas and Levolor window treatments, garage door openers, plumbing fixtures and other products that are difficult to display.

The kiosks hold color brochures featuring three complete groups of Pecaso's light fixtures, including the Contour and Ashonte chandelier collections, dressed in elegant Swarovski crystal, and the Valencia collection of alabaster, imported from Spain. Prices range from $99.99 for an alabaster wall bracket to $3,499.99 for a 16-light chandelier with Swarovksi Spectra crystals.

Pecaso, based in Hillside, N.J., is primarily a lighting showroom supplier. But Costco said the program has been successful and the chain will expand it as soon as the displays and inventory can be built.

"We're very pleased with it. We started out with a 10-location test and expanded to 153 stores," said Doug Schutt, senior vice president at Costco. "I would anticipate it being in the majority of Costco stores very soon," Schutt added.

"It's a very high-end product. Members do like to have a lot of selection available to them, and we offer significant savings, which is the most important element. It's a minimum of 50 percent savings, and sometimes more," he said.

Additionally, the special-order process is easy. Consumers fill out the order form, pay for it at the cashier and the order is drop-shipped within 30 days. Consumers are also directed to the Costco.com Web site for a wider assortment.
