BUSINESS PARK BLAZE TREATED AS 'SUSPICIOUS'.

Arsonists have been blamed for torching a wood flooring factory which was destroyed after a fire raged through the night. Little was left internally of smouldering Unit Four on the Duffryn Business Park, Ystrad Mynach, today as the intense heat incinerated two vehicles and a large amount of wood block-type flooring stored inside.

Sub Officer Gareth Vaughan, from Caerphilly fire station, said: 'We were the first to arrive at 10.38pm and the building was well alight, with smoke coming from everywhere.

'There were four fire appliances, a water bowser and a hydraulic platform at the scene and it was still smouldering when we left at 5am today, when relief crews took over.

'It was a severe fire but nobody was hurt and we managed to stop it spreading to nearby premises.'

Firefighters from Caerphilly, Cefn Fforest, Treharris and Abercarn fought the blaze, which is being treated as suspicious.

It is believed the business trading from the unit is called Catalogue Direct and supplied wooden flooring.

Also destroyed inside the building was a large van and an estate car.

Steven Rees, general manager of nearby TWT Logistics at Unit six, said: 'We were contacted by the fire service to allow our yard to be used as access to fight the fire and we were pleased to help.

'We have noticed that four of the curtains of our wagons have been slashed overnight and have alerted police about that.'

Gwent Police were at the scene today, carrying out investigations into the blaze.
