Accused Mitchell 'anxious'over Jodi.

Byline: LOUISE GRAY

THE Jodi Jones murder trial heard yesterday how accused Luke Mitchell spent the evening of his girlfriend's death.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard a taped police interview with Luke Mitchell in the week in which Jodi's body was found at a wooded area in Dalkeith, Midlothian, on June 30 last year.

Detective Constable Stephen Quinn, 43, who took the interview at Dalkeith police station on July 4, was questioned by prosecutor Alan Turnbull QC.

Mr Turnbull told the court Mitchell said he arrived home from school at around 4pm.

He then arranged to meet Jodi and left his house at around 5.30 or 5.35pm.

The accused, who was aged 14 at the time of the interview, said: "I was getting anxious...then I thought she had said something to her mum or done something not to be allowed out or something had come up."

Mr Turnbull pointed out a moment in the interview when DC Quinn asked: "Did you speak to Jodi?" and Mitchell replied: "I do not think I did ... no ... I am really not sure about that."

And Mr Turnbull then pointed out a moment in the taped interview when Mitchell also remembered phoning Jodi's house and saying: "Wait. I phoned the house.

"I phoned them when I was out and asked has Jodi left yet? And they said she left a while ago."

Mitchell, 16, has lodged defences of alibi and incrimination to the murder allegation.

He has also pleaded not guilty to carrying a knife or knives and supplying cannabis.

The trial continues.
