Museum of Beer & Brewing elects officers.
The recently formed Museum of Beer and Brewing held its first membership meeting at the Bavarian Wurst Haus n Milwaukee, WI on Saturday, May 12, 2001. 47 people attended the meeting which included dinner and a talk on Milwaukee's brewing history by historian and author John Gurda.The following people were elected to the board of directors: Frederick Gettelman, Gary Luther, Jim Haertel, Marjorie Volke, Jeff Platt, Jerrold Hilton, Jim Kupferschmidt, Dave Keating, Karl Strauss, Phil Pospychala and Paul Bertling. At a recent board meeting, an election of officers was held. Gary Luther was elected as president, Jeff Platt, v.p., Jim Haertel, treasurer, Marjorie Volke, secretary and Fred Gettelman, past-president.
The Museum is currently seeking items for its collection and traveling displays while looking for a permanent location and founding memberships are also available. The Museum of Beer and Brewing has been established as a not-for-profit corporation affiliated with the Wisconsin State Historical Society to preserve and present the history of brewing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the United States and the World. Founding members include the late Roger C. Briess (Briess Industries), Fred Gettelman (the Gettelman Brewing family), Jim Haertel (a beer enthusiast), Jerry Hilton (Steiner Hops), Gary Luther (Miller Brewing, retired), Jim Olen (Milwaukee Ale House), Jeff Platt (Cream City Suds), Jim Ryan (Stevens Point Brewery), Karl Strauss (Pabst Brewing, retired) and Marge and Tom Volke (Brewers Bulletin & Digest).
The museum already has had traveling historical displays at a number of brewing events in the Midwest, and many more are planned through the summer.
