Brewing museum honors Anchor Brewing.

The American Museum of Brewing History & Arts, in Ft. Mitchell, KY, presented the first annual James Madison Award to Anchor Brewing Co. during the 11th Great American Beer Festival in Denver.

Museum president David Heidrich, and executive director Daniel Bradford presented the award to Anchor brewer Bruce Josephson and the brewery's sales represented Bob Brewer following the GABF's Professional Blind Tasting Awards presentations at the festival.

According to Edgar, the award will be presented yearly to the brewery "that has made a contribution to understanding" the role of beer and brewing in popular culture.

"Anchor Brewing Co., through its unique beer styles and periodic forays into stylistic antiquarianism, exemplifies this spirit and was, therefore, named as the first recipient," Edgar said.

The award is named after James Madison after he put a stop to efforts to create a national brewery--along the lines of a national postal service--and kept the door open for the proliferation of local breweries and diverse beer culture.
