SHOOTING VICTIM GANGSTER WON'T TALK TO THE COPS; Medics report attack.
Byline: STUART GRIFFITHS EXCLUSIVEA GANGSTER has refused to speak to police after being gunned down in a pub.
Frank Ward, 40, who has served seven years in jail for attempted rape and three years for a prison riot, was shot in the arm.
Without calling for help or the police, Ward asked a friend to drive him to hospital.
As surgeons treated his wound, the hospital routinely reported the gunshot incident to the police.
CID officers went to the hospital to question Ward about who had attacked him in the Gimlet pub, Ruchill Street, Glasgow.
But he refused to give them any information. He even tried to sign himself out of the city's Western Infirmary after treatment.
A police insider said Ward, of Wyndford Road, Maryhill, was a major player in Glasgow's drug-dealing trade.
He said: "He is a real nasty piece of work.
"He is friendly with some of the city's most notorious gangsters, including one who was shot dead recently.
"Ward is not co-operating with us but that is not sur- prising considering who he is.
"He never even reported the incident. We only found out because the hospital contacted us.
"Hospitals must contact us to give information on any patient admitted with a gunshot wound."
An underworld source revealed: "Ward fell foul of a major Glasgow gangster family when he beat up one of their relatives for an unpaid drug debt. The family vowed revenge.
"I don't know if his getting shot in the arm was meant as a warning or if he was just lucky to escape with his life.
"But knowing Ward, he will not leave it at that. He will not be happy the family have dared to send a gunman into a pub in his own patch, where he is such a big man.
"He is a hard man and has boasted about serving years in prison for attempted rape and rioting."
A police spokesman confirmed they were investigating an incident in Ruchill on Monday.
