New soap's English joke.
Byline: STEVE HENDRYHEART-THROB English actor Grant Ibbs says he's being turned into a joke on new Scots soap River City.
Grant, 24, plays sponging charmer Russ Minto in BBC's pounds 10million serial, which will hit our screens in a fortnight.
But he is convinced his character has been created so the Scots can have a laugh at their neighbours.
He said: "It's terrible, they all hate me.
"The scriptwriters decided to have a bit of a joke and to treat Russ as the brunt of Scots humour.
"He's a lovely character... but he doesn't half go on.
"I'm sure Scots will say, `That's a typical Englishman who doesn't take a hint'. I'm convinced it's an in-house joke with everybody here."
In River City, Grant's character Russ moves to the fictional town of Shieldinch after falling out with his wealthy parents.
The spoilt toff is forced to find work in the Tall Ship pub. Grant said: "He's not nasty - he just thinks society owes him a living."
Grant, who grew up in Suffolk, starred with Sir Ian Holm and Dame Judi Dench in the movie, Last Of The Blonde Bombshells.
The fighting-fit actor has also studied judo, kick-boxing and kung fu... so the scriptwriters had better be careful in case he starts looking for revenge.
