Neil rapped over NHS mesh dodge.
Health Secretary Alex Neil has been accused of trying to blame the NHS mesh scandal on the private sector.A Sunday Mail campaign has revealed that thousands of women suffered horrific internal injuries from the implants, used in pelvic surgery. Of the 300 we know of, all but four had their ops done on the NHS.
But Neil told Holyrood: "A lot of these procedures have taken place in the private sector.
"Regulation needs to be toughened up, particularly in the private sector." But mesh campaigner Olive McIlroy, 57, of Renfrew, said: "We are astonished that the health secretary presented such wild inaccuracies in parliament.
"He's either misinformed or deliberately playing down the seriousness of the mesh scandal for the NHS."
