Loves who lost Madonna; THE MEN - AND WOMEN - POP'S MOST GLAMOROUS MUM JUST CAN'T SEEM TO REMEMBER EVER DATING.
Byline: PAUL MARTINMADONNA has changed the men in her life almost as often as her image - and that's been a lot over the past 20 years of chart success.
But the superstar mum has said she can barely remember any of her past lovers since she dumped Carlos Leon, the father of her daughter Lourdes, nearly three years ago.
Now she is set to marry film director Guy Ritchie - the father of her second child Rocco - and settle down, putting behind her a colourful history of affairs with men and women.
She said: "Guy is the right man for me - I feel happier now than ever and we will get married next year. But there have been so many people that I have been linked with."
And it's no wonder the star has struggled to recall many of her past lovers. Looking at this list it's not hard to see why.
RUSSELL LONG: The first in a long line of men to learn about Madonna's ruthless streak the hard way.
He was a high school pal who Madonna lost her virginity to when she was 15. He later complained that she walked away and left him feeling used and abused.
Long now drives a parcel delivery truck in Michigan and said: "I don't feel bad but I did at the time.
"She always went on about making it in the big time."
CHRISTOPHER FLYNN: Madonna met Flynn, a ballet teacher, in 1972 when she was just 14.
He became the consuming passion as she grew up. And he was the first to recognise her potential. It is believed the bisexual was her second lover.
He would regularly take her to gay discos and also encouraged her to go to church, with her religious dad, wearing nothing under her raincoat. He died of Aids several years ago.
STEVE BRAY: Had a two-year relationship with Madonna from 1976 to 1978 during her time at the University of Michigan when she was on a dance scholarship.
Even though their aff-air fizzled out they are still close friends and he is one of her songwriters.
DAN GILROY: Fronted a band which played in East Village bars and clubs. Gilroy taught her guitar and drums but their relationship ended when Madonna took an impulsive flight to Paris where she thought she could be the new Edith Piaf. It is not known where Gilroy is now.
PATRICK HERNANDEZ: A minor French disco star who promised Madonna success in Paris, with her singing his songs.
Friends say a clash of egos doomed the relationship from the beginning. Patrick is still pursuing his singing dreams in France.
By now, in 1982, she was on the verge of the success she craved. Long-term relationships were out and a series of anonymous people - male and female - were seduced by her.
Manager Camille Barbone said: "She was into anyone, men or women, anyone who was beautiful. She loved sex." Her friend Erica Bell said: "We'd all get dressed up and drive in her limousine around Manhattan. When Madonna spotted some good-looking Puerto Rican boy she'd order the driver to stop and get him in the car.
"Sometimes she just kissed him but if she really liked him she'd rip his clothes off and do whatever she wanted to, while we drove around New York."
SEAN PENN: Anonymous lovers gave way to the love match made in hell in 1985 when Madonna announced she was to marry the Hollywood bad boy.
They first met on the set of her Material Girl video and they cemented their love with visits to Marilyn Monroe's grave - a woman who still holds a dark fascination for Madonna.
But soon there were stories of violent rows, of drunken rages thrown by Penn, who fuelled his anger with whisky benders.
She served divorce papers on him then withdrew them for a reconciliation. Two years later, however, it was all over. In an ending worthy of the pair's life together, Penn tied her to a chair in their Malibu house for a night.
Penn is still a major acting star. He regards his marriage to Madonna as one big crazy mess.
SANDRA BERNHARD: The comedienne and Madonna became inseparable during 1988, kissing in public and insinuating steamy times behind closed doors.
But Madonna soon began to hunt out a new man in LA, saying she missed "a good spanking during sex - the spanking that a good girl gets from her man".
WARREN BEATTY: After causing a storm of controversy with her Like A Prayer video, she teamed up with the actor linked to a host of Hollywood women.
Her relationship with Beatty before the release of their 1990 film, Dick Tracy, was described by many as cold and calculated.
TONY WARD: A nude model who was seen as a low-life. He danced in her outrageous and widely-banned Justify My Love video and it is believed he left her with a baby, which Madonna aborted.
He is now a down-and-out actor in Hollywood scraping money together in films under the name of Franco Kier.
JOSE CANESCO: A famous baseball star with the Oakland 'A's and very much married.
He was shocked when several American celebrity magazines exposed his relationship with Madonna in May 1991. He later reconciled with wife, Esther.
CHARLES BARKLEY: Basketball player with the Phoenix Suns, he had a frantic one-night stand with Madonna - and he dumped her the next day saying: "I ain't interested in the girl."
CARLOS LEON: Last lover before Ritchie. She called him "The Sperminator". The trainer and the father of Lourdes is now set up financially for life - but he has no rights to see his daughter.
SANDRA BERNHARD
THEY cavorted everywhere and many fans thought Madonna had gone "the other way". The affair fizzled out, but all the publicity never did Bernhard any harm.
WARREN BEATTY
ASKED about his reputation for womanising, Madonna said: "I know all about his past. You can be flattered by it or threatened by it. I choose to be flattered by it."
TONY WARD
A DANCER on her Justify My Love video, the pair met at a party where Madonna stubbed out her cigarette on his back. He now stars in gay porn movies in LA.
JOHN KENNEDY JNR
HE WAS fascinated with Madonna, to the fury of his mother Jackie O who hated the singer and referred to her as "that tramp". They split after six months.
INGRID CASARES
ANOTHER female lover, Cuban beauty Ingrid had an explosive affair with Madonna. But the pair have stayed close pals. Casares now runs a fashion business in Florida.
DENNIS RODMAN
TATTOOED basketball bad boy Rodman said Madonna "wasn't hot in the sack". In turn, she claimed that he, like all the black men she had known, was disrespectful to women.
