Golden time in Silver city; CELEBRATIONS Presenter Arlene shares memories.
Byline: Charlie GallFORMER Grampian TV presenter Arlene Stuart took a trip down memory lane last week when she returned to Aberdeen to celebrate her silver wedding.
But her visit to St Machar's Cathedral with husband Kenny didn't just bring the wonderful memories of their big day flooding back.
The couple also had a laugh when they recalled the hungover and hapless cameraman hired to capture their special day on film.
Arlene, who now co-hosts Edinburghbased Forth One breakfast radio show Boogie in the Morning, recalled: "We had booked a media student to record the event and he'd been partying the night before.
"He didn't look his best when he turned up but we just thought it was his bohemian style.
"However, after setting up his tripod in the upper balcony of the church to capture the walk down the aisle and the vows from above, the heat and serene atmosphere got to him."
Arlene revealed: "Unfortunately, after setting the shot, he then fell asleep and failed to notice the camera panning left before settling on a view of the stone wall - our entire service was missed. "My grand entrance, the walk down the aisle with my bridesmaids, the hymns, the vows, signing the register and the joyous exit down the aisle again."
Mother-of-two Arlene added: "However, we did get a great film of a wall.
"He then got confused with the on/off button on the camera which led to many running shots from over his shoulder as he tried to relocate for the next shot.
"He would then switch off the camera to film the general celebrations. The final video was so bad, we had to laugh. At least we have our photo album."
But Arlene said she and Kenny had enjoyed their weekend in the Silver City and enjoying the splendour of St Machar's Cathedral. "She said: "It's a beautiful building with stunning stained glass windows.
"The cathedral is a fine example of a fortified kirk with only one main large Stain glass window with 'lights'' or narrow windows slotted in between stone pillars.
"The flat oak ceiling contains 48 heraldic shields in three rows of sixteen representing the kings of Europe, the Pope and clerics of Scotland, and the King of Scots with his nobles. It's an impressive sight which I didn't fully appreciate 25 years ago.
"To be fair, my mind was elsewhere to take in and fully enjoy my surroundings."
Arlene's career began as a continuity announcer and newsreader on Aberdeenbased Grampian TV, now STV.
She went on to present STV's popular Saturday Morning children's programme Wemyss Bay 902101.
After 10 years with BBC Scotland, Arlene joined Radio Forth.
