Football: SHIRE NO LONGER ON TRIAL AFTER LIVINGSTON LEVELLER; EAST STIRLING .................1 MORTON .........................1.
TAGGED the worst team in Scotland before this match as they propped up the Third Division, East Stirling went some way to reversing that with a well-deserved point.Trialist Scott Livingston was their hero, striking 10 minutes from time after the home side had trailed for most of the game.
Danny Diver's Shire squad kicked off with the four new faces of Jamie McKay, David Grant, and on- loan Livvy pair David Ormiston and Brian Fairbairn.
The Morton line up had the familiar face of David Hopkin making his return to the club he first joined in 1989.
It was former Scotland star Hopkin who had the first chance of the match when his side footed shot was turned round for a corner by Shire keeper Scott Findlay after just one minute.
Morton were ahead after nine minutes when Alex Williams grabbed his fifth goal of the season from the penalty spot after Findlay brought down Jani Uotinen in the box.
Morton continued to press as they came close after half an hour when Anton Smith forced Findlay in to a diving save at his left hand post.
Shire came more into the game in the second half as they came close when Sean McAulay's free- kick skimmed the bar after 63 minutes.
Williams almost doubled Morton's lead when his quick turn and shot was inches past the right hand post.
East Stirling grabbed the equaliser when Livingston struck in the closing stages.
