Football: Jacob's cracker sees Rushcliffe march on.

RUSHCLIFFE were in outstanding form as they easily disposed of The Marches School in the Midlands Cup Final.

With Premiership stadium Villa Park as the setting, Rushcliffe turned on the style to thrill the crowd with a 4-0 triumph. Jacob Mellis opened Rushcliffe's account with two goals, the first a simple finish, the second from the penalty spot.

Tim Hopkinson added a third on the stroke of half time as he slammed Jonathan Baxter's pass into the roof of the net. Rushcliffe sealed the match as Jacob Mellis completed his well-deserved hat-trick.

Team manager Stuart O'Neil said afterwards: "The team played really well today and were not overawed by the big occasion. The boys cannot wait for the National Finals at Stamford Bridge."

Meanwhile Church Stretton came from behind to defeat Thomas Estley Community College in a thrilling Midlands Cup Final at Villa Park. Vicky Merill put Thomas Estley in front but Church Stretton bounced back immediately.

Vinnie Tyler equalised with a sweetly struck volley then Vicky Ward slotted home from a corner to complete the 2-1 victory.

Team manager Ralph Davies said: "It was a great day and I am thrilled."
