Erhaab to return to England.

ERHAAB, the 1994 Derby winner who was exported to Japan, is to return to England to resume his stallion career.

The colt has been bought by his former owner Hamdan Al-Maktoum's Shadwell Estate Company after being purchased by a syndicate of Japanese breeders for around pounds 3.5 million at the end of his three-year-old career.

Erhaab was the fourth of five successive Epsom heroes to be secured for Japanese breeders, the others being Generous, Dr Devious, Commander In Chief and Lammtarra.

However, a reversal of that trend came when Dr Devious returned to stand at Coolmore Stud in Ireland in 1998.

It has yet to be confirmed where Erhaab, a son of Chief's Crown, will resume his stud career, but it is highly likely that it will be at Sheikh Hamdan's Nunnery Stud in Thetford, Norfolk, home of another Derby winner in Nashwan, as well as Green Desert, Unfuwain and Muhtarram.

Trained by John Dunlop, Erhaab won the Derby from King's Theatre, having previously won the Dante. He was third to Ezzoud in the Eclipse before his career ended

disappointingly when he ran unplaced in the King George.
