Blackwell acquires Food and Nutrition Press, Inc.; launches title.
Blackwell Publishing (Malden, HA) has acquired the majority of assets of Food and Nutrition Press, Inc. (FNP; Trumbull, CT), including 11 journals, a newsletter and over 50 books on food science. No terms of the deal, which does not include FNP's Military division, were given. Blackwell was represented by Eugene Simonoff & Associates (New York).The acquired journal titles (with frequency) include: Foodservice Research International (4x), Journal of Food Biochemistry (6x), Journal of Food Lipids (4x), Journal of Food Process Engineering (6x), Journal of Food Processing and Preservation (6x), Journal of Food Quality (6x), Journal of Food Safety (4x), Journal of Muscle Foods (4x), Journal of Rapid Methods and Automation in Microbiology (4x), Journal of Sensory Studies (6x) and Journal of Texture Studies (6x). The company's newsletter, Food, Neutraceuticals and Nutrition is a monthly.
Blackwell U.S. president Gordon Tibbitts said his company "has Invested heavily in food science and technology over the last few years, and this (purchase) represents a major step towards our goal to be the leading publisher in this area." Blackwell currently produces over 200 Journals in science and related disciplines and 15 in the Food Science category, including International Journal of Food Science & Technology, Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics and Plant Biotechnology Journal.
In related news, Blackwell has begun the publication of the Journal of Sexual Medicine with a July issue. It will be produced six times a year and an annual print/online subscription costs $120 for individuals and $190 for institutions.
The journal is targeted to health care professionals in sexual medicine, including internists, scientists, gynecologists, family practitioners, sex therapists and psychiatrists, and carries basic science and clinical research studies in the psychologic and biologic aspects of male and female sexual function and dysfunction, with an emphasis on treatment.
