Dr. Gasim Bedri president of Ahfad University for Women and Dr. Awatif Mustafa vice president for Student Affairs and Admission attended a seminar on 'Education in Sudan' that was organized by the Department for International Development (DFID) in July 2002 in London.

Ahfad University for Women invited the famous Sudanese singer Mohammed Wardi to a seminar on 'flow to help cure Renal Failure in children' in order to fund raise, provide dialysis machines and life saving equipment in July 2002.

Ahfad University for Women hosted the commemoration of the first Sudanese Reporter Hussein Sharief, organized by El Imam El Mahdi University in July 2002.

Merghania private Primary School students visited Ahfad University for Women in July 2002.

Professor Ahmed Abdel Magied attended the World Women's Congress at Kampala in July 2002. Concomitantly, prior to the conference, he participated in the second congress of the International Network for Feminist Knowledge (INFKW).

The Student's Affairs Office -within its student's activities programme- in collaboration with the Sudanese National Radio Broadcasting organized a contest between the school of Psychology and Management Studies in August 2002.

Mr. Justin Wales, head of Sudanese Studies at Durham University, England visited Sudan in September 2002.

Ahfad University for Women organized a workshop on Electronic Media, its importance and the use of the Internet in Education, in September 2002.

Ahfad University for Women in collaboration with the general Union for Sudanese Students in its summer programme held two training sessions. These were in swimming and table tennis in September 2002.

The Academic Affairs office organized a visit for the American Scientific Peace Organization to Ahfad University for Women in October 2002.

Ahfad University for Women organized a dinner party in honour of Mrs. Xevier Marchal's visit from the European Union to Sudan in October 2002.

The Director of the Human Regional Center of the Diplomatic Institute of Jordan Dr Atif Ifayab visited Ahfad University for Women in October 2002.

An envoy from the Path finder Institute visited Ahfad University in October 2002. The Institute is concerned with Reproductive Health issues. The aim of the visit was to become acquainted with the University programmes in reproductive Health.

Ahfad University for Women celebrated the World Food Day under the motto of" Water is the source of Food" on the l7th October. University students participated in conducting relevant theatrical plays and musicals reflecting the motto.

Ahfad University for Women held a dinner party in honour of the visiting German Team from the University of Hambolt. They visited Sudan as part of the linkage programme between the educational institutions in November 2002.

Ahfad University for Women held its annual Ramadan Breakfast on the 2nd of December 2002.

Alifad University for Women organized a fare well party in December in honour of Professor Abdallah El Harith and his wife. Professor El Harith was head of the University Laboratories for Medical and Biological Research.

Dr Amal Bassili and Stevan Wayling from the WHO visited Ahfad University for Women in December 2002. The purpose of the visit was to become acquainted with the University programmes and seek avenues for joint cooperation.

Dr Takalo president of North West University from South Africa visited Ahfad University for Women in December 2002. The aim of her visit was to become acquainted with the University programmes and activities.

Professor Gunter Lorenzl and professor Swarez from Hambolt University in Germany visited Ahfad University for Women in December 2002 as part of the linkage Programme between the two Universities

Ahfad University for Women celebrated the world AIDS day in December 2002 at Dar El Salam Displacement Camp in Ombadda The University undertook the supervision of the Counseling and awareness programme of the displaced.

Ahfad news

Ahfad University for Women hosted an envoy of Ophthalmologists from Egypt invited by the Sudanese Rotary Club. A number of lectures were given at the University and 150 surgical operations were conducted on glycoma and cataract patients and also on 9 children with different ailments.

School of Psychology and Preschool Education

The English Unit of the School of Psychology in July 2002 organized training sessions on teaching English in collaboration with the British Council in Sudan. A number of Americans visiting lecturers participated in the Training. A number of trainees were from Ahfad Primary School.

In September 2002 in the school of Psychology and Preschool Education Dr El Wathiq Biallali Ali gave a lecture on Reproductive Health.

The school of Psychology organized a seminar on 'Quranic Healing' presented by-El Shiekh Mohammed All Abbas on 8th October 2002.

School of Management Studies

Dr Hala Elms from the School of Management Studies presented a working paper to be published as part of a book on the Use and Application of Accounting in Sudan edited by Dr Abu Zer ElGaaili, lecturer at King Saud University of Saudi Arabia.

Ustaza Mona Mudathir, Sara Osman and Reem El Tayeb were awarded master's degrees. The Former an MBA from the American University in Cairo and the latter from the University of Birmingham in England. They were dually awarded Masters in Accounting and Finance.

Ustaza Lena Elsheikh Omer Mahjoub joined the academic staff of the School of Management Studies. She gained masters in Development Studies from the University of Manchester, England.

Ustaza Amna Dirar has been awarded a Ph.D. in Public Administration from South Africa.

Ustaza Mona Mudathir, lecturer at the school of Management Studies attended a workshop on Social Research Methods. The Institute of Social and Economic Studies of the University of Khartoum in collaboration with OSSREA organized the workshop in October 2002.

School of Rural Extension Education and Development

The first batch of Rural Extension and Development master's students was admitted to the university in July 2002. Hence, classes began in August, the degree is awarded by completion of courses and research after 15 months.

The Rural Extension Association of the School of REED held a fair on 4th October 2002 to raise funds for the Association.

Laboratories Unit

Ustaza Shimaa Hassan from the Laboratories Unit presented a paper at the seminar on 'Partial Classification of Tuberculosis from Corpses' that was organized by the University of Khartoum in July 2002.

Ustaza Aisha El Nour from the Laboratories unit achieved a Masters degree from the Sudan University of Technology and Sciences.

Ustaza Sanaa Mahjoub from the Laboratories Unit achieved a Masters degree in Immunology and Tropical Diseases in October 2002 from London School of Hygiene.

Ustaz Mohd El Motasim and El Fadil Mustafa from die Laboratories Unit participated in a training session in Molecular Biology conducted by the Sudan University of Technology and Sciences from 26th October - 2nd November 2002.

Dr Iman Shamat and Ustaza Shimaa Ahmed from the Laboratories Unit participated in the second meeting on Genetics of the Sudanese population and East Africa in November 2002

Ustaz Mohammed el Mutasim A/Hameed from the laboratories Unit attained a master in medical microbiology in December 2002.

Institute of Women Gender and Development Studies

The gender summer school program was held from lime- July 2002. The theme was entitled "Debating Gender Identities in the Muslim World and Peace". It was coordinated by the institute for women gender and development studies.

Dr Balghis Badri president of the Institute of Women, gender and Development Studies presented a lecture on Human Rights entitled 'the Role of the Security Forces in developing and Protecting Humans' held at the Police Officers Club in July 2002.

The Institute of Women, gender and Development Studies organized a number of Gender and Development workshops as part of its linkage programme with Humboldt University from 19th -24th October 2002.

The Institute of Women, gender and Development Studies organized a seminar on Research Policies and Prospects in October 2002 presented by Professor Salah Ahmed El Amin, head of the Teacher's Research, Resource Unit.

The Institute for Women, Gender and Development Studies organized a seminar that discussed the report on Youth Rights and Violence against Women, presented by UNFPA in October 2002.

The Institute for Women, Gender and Development Studies held a workshop to evaluate the Reproductive Health Directory on 28th December 2002.

The Institute for Women, Gender and Development Studies organized a lecture on the risks and complications of Female Genital mutilation presented by Dr Hanninu Lovel and Professor Saad El Fadil in December 2002.

Nutrition Center for Training and Research

Batches six of the Master's in Human Nutrition have been accepted to Ahfad University' for Women. Fourteen students have been accepted with two scholarships for applicants from the Federal Ministry of Health as part of the collaboration between the two institutions.

Documentation Unit for Women Studies

Dr Nafisa Aluned El Amin head of the Documentation Unit for Women Studies participated in the meeting organized by the Sudanese singer Mohammed Wardi at his home. The meeting was to collaborate on means of fundraising for the establishment of a Paediatric Renal Unit in August 2002.

Ustaza Intisar Sulieman El Bashier of the Documentation Unit for Women Studies participated in the educational meeting that was organized by the African Organization for combating AIDS (Sudan Branch). The meeting was held in preparation for Sudan's participation in the International Conference on Combating AIDS which will be held in May 2003.

Teachers Research and Resource Unit

The Teachers Training Research Resource Unit organized a training session for the administrative assistants of the University from July-October 2002

The Teachers Training Research Resource Unit organized a workshop on Educational Methods' in collaboration with the Computer Science Unit for the academic staff of the University in September 2002.

The Teachers Training Research Resource Unit organized preparatory workshop on the Rural extension Education and Development Field Trip Programme for students and staff in October 2002.

Al Hafeed Library

El Hafeed Library in collaboration with SAFE, the Sudanese American Foundation for Education organized its annual book fair in October 2002. The books and references displayed included a large array of disciplines.
