'Fire on runway' air rage father is jailed.

AN AIR rage passenger who told fellow holidaymakers there was a fire on the runway was jailed for two months yesterday.

Travellers on the holiday flight from Majorca to Glasgow were alarmed when he shouted: "There is a fire on the runway. We will not be taking off. This is the captain speaking."

Then as the Flying Colours Boeing 757 got airborne, David Ansari started shouting and swearing at cabin crew.

Yesterday Ansari, 33, of Ruchill Street, Glasgow, was jailed for two months at Paisley Sheriff Court after he admitted placing passengers and crew in a state of fear, during the three-hour flight on Wednesday morning.

The captain was so alarmed by his conduct, he radioed ahead for police to stand by as the aircraft touched down.

Shamefaced Ansari was arrested and appeared in custody at court yesterday.

Prosecutor Margaret McCallum said many of the 235 passengers on board were alarmed by the his rowdy conduct before the plane even took off from Palma in the early hours.

Immediately after boarding he began to complain loudly that the video screens were out of order and shouted at stewards: "What kind of f*****g aircraft is this?"

Mrs McCallum said: "He was aggressive and swearing and told the steward 'wait till we get to Glasgow'."

Defending, Mark Chambers said his client fully accepted his behaviour was reprehensible and unacceptable to both crew and passengers.

He said Ansari had been disappointed the screens were not working to keep his children occupied on the outward journey. When he found that they were again out of order on the return flight, he felt he had a justifiable grievance.
