Calm as the Colour Ticket to Liberty SUNSHINE bursts out of this debut EP by the Fife pop act.

Nestled somewhere between The La's and early Stone Roses, the four-piece lead by Darren Roy take their DNA from The Byrds' dreamy pastoral bliss.

The EP opens with The Rain Must Fall, a fast paced acoustic-guitar lead slice of Madchester as Darren sings "only be who you are".

Harmonies build and build on the song that clips along at a hair-raising pace.

Good Morning Lassitude offers more of the same and is perhaps a bit too similar to The Rain Must Fall in song structure, particularly with the ascending chorus singing line.

Velvet Sunburst rattles along as well with clanging acoustic guitar, tambourine and chiming guitar. It could be a first album Oasis B-side. Final tune Ticket to Liberty adds a wailing harmonica to the driving acoustic guitar. A band with budding promise.

They play Box in Glasgow tomorrow and Whistlebinkies in Edinburgh on July 14.

But don't think it's dodgy acoustic numbers or synth noodlings.

The EP opens with God Lovers a Trier, a garage punk Fratellis-esque tubthumper that locks into something special at around the 1.30minute mark.

A real highlight is When I'm 6/4, which has pert strings and a gloriously groaning cello. Gorillaz would kill for a tune like that.

The final track, North and South, is a finger-pickin' country acoustic number that finishes within two minutes.

It's out on July 11.
