I've just learnt on the internet that the Newcastle Breweries are closed. I am so sad, I've waited too long. I would have liked to have had a photo taken outside the building.
My dad was a long distance lorry driver for them up to 1960. He slipped a disc at Whitley Bay beach and his nerves got the better of him. He felt he was no longer the breadwinner. He was always on the lorry or fixing it. He was the best dad and father and he left four of us by killing himself by gas in the kitchen one Saturday morning.
He was featured in your paper, all he had left was his little blue star which he wore in his lapel which he wore at work. Do you think I can contact anyone in Newcastle who was to do with the breweries? I wanted any photos of him at work, or anyone what they thought of him whether good or bad.
I have only one picture of him in his lorry and two more out of work. I was only seven when he died.
I've been in Hull for 20 years. I can't express what I feel that we'll never see the Brown Ale star again. I have been trying to move back for years and I am still trying to move ASAP!!
I have lost contact with all my relatives there, due to my dad dying. I'm busy trying to make a family tree. If you can help me I would really appreciate it, thank you.
