The Scurra.
CHRISTINE Hamilton has spectacularly tumbled off the wagon after a month knocking back nothing stronger than Perrier. She chose a dinner party in Westminster to end her period of abstinence, which started in Australia when she competed in the TV survivor show, I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!
But on Tuesday it was her fellow dinner party guests who wanted out when Hamilton downed champagne, followed by heavy-duty red, and then monopolised the table chit-chat.
"We had to hear all about her experiences in the jungle," says my source, who joined the crowd at political lobbyist Diana Rasbatch's home. "One minute Christine was telling us she was off the sauce and the next thing she was drinking for Britain.
"After midnight someone suggested we should go dancing in Soho but Christine said no, because she had to get up early to see Louis Theroux. She'll have the hangover from hell today."
Indeed, her mobile clicked on to the answerphone when I called to shoot the breeze.
STINKING rich property magnate Earl Cadogan, who owns a sizeable chunk of Chelsea and Knightsbridge, has finally agreed a divorce settlement with his ex-wife Jenny, after nearly a decade of haggling.
As part of the deal, the aristo offered Jenny a country house owned by his family but she turned it down.
Why?
"It is called Witch's Cottage," she has been telling friends. "And it has a picture of a witch on the gate. So that is obviously how he sees me."
Not to worry. Cadogan has found her another country pile that is worth pounds 700,000.
CONTINUING the search for people born to their jobs, Alison Dillingham emails: "On holiday in the West Country I was watching the local news when an item came on about the Newquay Aquarium Centre. The person being interviewed was called Joanne Trout."
MORE news arrives about Elaine Stritch, the short-tempered American actress who won't appear on Graham Norton's chat show because "no-one's ever heard of him".
The 82-year-old, who is in London to perform her one-woman show, dined at Joe Allen the other day and, as she was ordering, asked the waiter to prepare a parcel of smoked salmon for her to take away.
He politely said it would be ready for her when she left but Stritch bristled in her white trouser suit and screeched: "No, I want you to bring it to me now!"
A veteran member of the restaurant's staff sighed: "Is it any wonder we call her Elaine Bitch?"
PIXIE-SIZED Hollywood raver Leonardo DiCaprio will need to conserve his strength to play the lead role in Baz Luhrmann's Alexander The Great.
Screenwriter Ted Tally says: "Our script has Leo playing a bisexual Alexander the Great, but he believes in spreading his love around. He has three mistresses, three male lovers and even has sex with a eunuch and an Amazon.
"Alexander was a total freak in the best sense of the word. Leo is the right age and he has the charisma."
FOLLOWING news that Greg Dyke wants Beeb staff to spend some time during the next year doing alternative jobs within the corporation, The Scurra's BBC mole calls to say Jim Davidson will spend a week as a comedian.
