SPORTSFILE; BRITAIN'S STARS GOOD AS GOLD!
Britain went gold crazy at the European Championships in Budapest last night as they claimed three titles in under an hour. The Brits - who have now scooped six golds - were led by Colin Jackson who won his third successive 110m hurdles title in a record equalling time.
That win came moments after the men's 4x100m relay team took that title for the first time.
Denise Lewis then grabbed Britain's sixth gold of the Championships as she was crowned heptathlon champion in emphatic style.
Jackson cruised to his title in 13.02 seconds to equal the Championship record he set in the semi- final yesterday and follow-up his victories in Split in 1990 and Helsinki four years ago.
And the delighted star said: "This one has got to be high on my list of achievements. It is still a great feeling when you win.
"Split was important as it was my first and in Helsinki I was under pressure after winning the world title, but this is the best."
Earlier Britain had claimed their fourth gold medal with a victory in the 4x100m relay.
Allyn Condon, 100m gold medallist Darren Campbell, Doug Walker - who won the 200m - and Julian Golding cruised home in 38.52 seconds.
It was Britain's first win in this event at the European Championships, with France in second and Poland third.
Marlon Devonish and Dwain Chambers will also scoop medals after running in the semi.
Denise Lewis grabbed her title by 99 points. She had an eight-second cushion going into the final event, the 800m, and cruised to the title from Poland's Urszula Wlodarczyk.
The three golds took Britain to the top of the medal table with six golds, three silvers and two bronze.
And the medals should pour in today as Steve Backley is the strong favourite in the javelin.
But world record-holder Jonathan Edwards was lucky to escape injury when the triple- jump board buckled under him.
He avoided breaking a leg when he landed on the dodgy board during his first qualifying leap.
Edwards jumped again and qualified for today's final to remain on course for a European, World Cup and Commonwealth Games treble.
NASEEM HAMED is set to defend his WBO featherweight title on October 31 in Las Vegas against Ulsterman Wayne McCullough.
