Rugby League: WELSH REWARD FOR KELLY.
Byline: DAVID BURKEYORKSHIREMAN Neil Kelly, who has inspired Widnes Vikings' remarkable return to the top flight, has been re-appointed coach of Wales for their match against the New Zealand tourists in November.
The move was a formality, given the Welsh side's encouraging performance against England in his first match in charge at Wrexham 12 months ago and his impressive record with the Super League newcomers.
Wales, who lost 42-33 to the English last July, will face the tourists at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on Sunday, November 3, looking to erase the memory of their crushing 58-18 World Cup defeat by the Kiwis there two years ago. Kelly, a former Dewsbury and Featherstone hooker who coached Dewsbury before moving to the Halton Stadium, said: "I am ambitious to coach international teams and honoured to get the chance to work with Wales again.
"We established great rugby league credibility by giving England a serious shock and Wales have a great deal to prove against New Zealand after the World Cup disappointment at the Millennium Stadium.
"I am looking forward to the challenge of facing the Kiwis and we have set ourselves the goal of making the Welsh people proud of their rugby league team."
Ex-Aberavon and Wales international Kel Coslett, director of rugby at his old league club St Helens, has been re-appointed as Welsh manager.
