Rugby League: Reilly joust with Knights for Dave.

MAL Reilly, new boss of Huddersfield Giants, is ready to battle with his old club Newcastle Knights in a tug-of-war for Aussie star Dave Boughton.

The Giants, who finished bottom of Super League, are keen to complete an overseas spending spree with Boughton's capture.

But the race could get even hotter this week if Aussie champs Brisbane Broncos step up their interest in the ex-Cronulla and Adelaide forward.

First Division Hull KR are also in the market for an Adelaide star - 24-year-old Chris Quinn - and are keen on bringing back Richard Smith. But they face competition from St Helens, Widnes and Featherstone for Irish international Smith.

PROMOTED Wakefield Trinity have snapped up full-back Andy Hodgson and opened talks with forward Sonny Nickle following the release of both players from Bradford Bulls.

Trinity are also bidding for Adrian Brunker, 23-year-old wing or centre from Sydney St George.

Other targets include Halifax's Richard Marshall and former Hull star Brad Hepi, who has been released by London Scottish.
