Ramdev to set up yoga base on Scottish island.
BABA Ramdev, the godman who brought yoga back in fashion, is turning a scenic island off Scotland's coast into the base for his Patanjali Yog Peeth Trust ( PYPT). And the price of it, being footed by a couple of Indian origin, is Rs 15.9 crore. The island -- Little Cumbrae ( locally known as Wee Cumbrae), is located at the Firth of Clyde in North Ayrshire, near Glasgow -- has been purchased by Sunita and Sam Poddar, and they have handed it over to the PYPT. The Poddars run Lambhill Court Limited, a care home for the elderly in Glasgow.
The island has been renamed Peace Island. The Poddars insisted it will remain an asset for Scotland.
" Our aim is to promote healthy living through yoga," Sunita said to the local media after the purchase was announced. " The community has given us a lot, now it's time to pay back. Little Cumbrae is our way of paying back the community." According to the PYPT website, Ramdev will grace a bhoomi poojan ceremony for Peace Island on September 27. The event will be open to the public and the Poddars have urged the locals to participate. " Ferry services have been arranged from Largs Marina ( Largs Yacht Haven) to Little Cumbrae Island at a nominal cost to you," the website stated.
The 684- acre island has an impressive Victorian mansion with 12 bedrooms, five reception rooms and three bathrooms, Gertrude Jekyll gardens, two cottages and a studio flat, a former lighthouse complex dating back to 1793 with three houses, a boathouse and a stone jetty that was used to land coal to fuel the original lighthouse fire.
There is also an ' original' orchard that has recently been ' discovered'. The freehold property was offered on the open market for sale for the first time in 40 years in July this year.
Humberts Leisure, a London- based international leisure business consulting firm and a co- selling agent for Little Cumbrae, said the island will offer a wide range of potential pursuits, including bird- watching, sea and loch fishing, shooting, walking, quad- biking and other " outward- bound activities and many features of historical, geological and ecological interest".
